So many problems with Text Mesh Pro

I'm really struggeling with grasping the logic of TMP. It's supposed to be faster than regular text and it does have some nice options, however:

- Negative Z axis is forward, so lookAt() makes the text point away from the camera. Why? - I have some text that is supposed to be 20cm in real world. I don't like transforms with a scale other than [1,1,1]. I seem to have to set the font size to 0.8, but that makes resizing the textbox almost impossible in the viewport. It jumps around and often becomes negative as soon as I touch the yellow border. - I built a spritesheet from a ttf, but for some random characters, not always the same, it reverts to the default font. Any ideas, why? - The Gizmos are 1m and don't shrink when I zoom in, I keep having to disable them to be able to see anything.

I'm building a mobile game and like to have all text TMP, but it seems to be too glitchy to do that. I can't really believe that, because it's not a new feature, so any tips would be appreciated.
